My wife and I first met Jacques and Anthea Pienaar of Protea Financial Services in early February, prior to Lockdown. From the first meeting we were confident that they would be able to help us with our particular financial requirement. Due to the totally unprecedented period following this when the Coronavirus pandemic hit this country we have an outstanding level of service until the final conclusion of the support in early September.

It is unusual to have a standard of service that is so consistently professional, but Protea Financial Services maintained this throughout the extended period of Lockdown and beyond as restrictions eased. The process was made more complicated because the support from the third parties in the process included one whose service standards were probably the worst that I have ever had the misfortune to experience.

Our purpose was to find the best way to pass some capital to our children via a buy- to-let mortgage on a flat. The first contact and meeting with Jacques and Anthea were incredibly open and reassuring about the plans that we had to release capital from this second property via a buy-to-let, interest only mortgage.

This was done with the strong ethos of transparency and integrity with which they conduct their business.

Having appointed them to represent us and manage the process Anthea took on the day to day work starting with collecting a very thorough and detailed range of financial information from us. At this point lockdown hit and everything became significantly more complicated and protracted in terms of obtaining and collating all the information from all the third parties.

However, without fail one of them would come to our house to collect each item/s of information that were required to be originals, regardless of their other commitments, also, getting some of the information proved consistently challenging due to most of the providers of the required information having a limited number of staff who were all working remotely. Anthea didn’t just demonstrate unlimited patience, she also persevered to try to help to access pieces of information that were proving difficult to get in the current lockdown existence.

We opted for the free legal service for this final stage of the mortgage preparation and the problems began...

After an extended recorded intro message from the law firm, and several options having to be selected, a live human eventually answered. Without exception on every of the numerous occasions having to phone them, the front-line staff were very courteous, helpful and positive. There were commitments to pass on information to the next team up the line, but if my recollections are correct no one at that level ever acted on them.

It felt like an impenetrable secretive door to the holy grail of the actual processing of work and promises of action continually failed to materialise.  Throughout this extremely frustrating period Anthea tried her best to deal with the problems in parallel, with equally little success. With continued perseverance, we eventually received the funds and were able to help our children as we had originally hope to do.

In summary Protea Financial Services were consistently conscientious, thorough, professional, helpful and a pleasure to work with in every way and I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending anyone to use their services.
